It Starts With A Seed

Somewhere,

In the corner of the world, sits a seed.

Maybe it’s tucked in the pocket of last season’s chore coat

or disregarded in the bottom of

an otherwise empty hardware

store packet

Or dropped and left alone on

the floor of a garden shed.

Wherever it is,

it sits there containing within

it almost all of the necessary

pieces to grow,

to burst out of the ground into

the beautiful plant it was made to be.

But it will need nurture.

To be planted in good soil.

To be given water. Sunshine. Shade.

Then time to wait and watch

as what’s always been becomes the fullness of what it was made to be.

And somewhere,

In some corner of the world, sits you.

Maybe you’re on a park bench

getting ready to make your next move or at the kitchen table

after a hard conversation

or in front of your computer

with minutes and hours and days of work left to do.

Wherever you are, you sit there containing within

you almost all the necessary pieces to grow.

To burst into the most beautiful person you were made to be.

You will need nurture.

To be put into places that make you come alive.

To be given space to sort it all out.

Tools to learn and grow and be.

Then time to wait and watch

as what you have always been becomes the fullness of what you were made to be.

(Magnolia Journal, Summer 2022, pg 33)

· Notice the longing to grow, to become the best version of yourself.

· Where are the places that nurture you? Nature, art or music, a listening community, being with loved ones, silence?

· What tools do you need to learn and grow and be?

Step back this summer and begin to build these spaces of nurture more intentionally into your life….and see the seed of beautiful YOU flourish even more in the world
