I have been thinking alot about keeping strong, whole and sane in times of trial, stress and weakness.
What do you do when you find yourself in a season of life when all hope seems to be gone?
What do you run to? Who do you run to? Sure, the "right" answer is Jesus and most serious Christians do that. We persevere in prayer. We go to the Word for inspiration and comfort. We cry out to God , humbling ourselves, asking Him to purify us, deliver us, guide us.
But sometimes we need to see Jesus with a little skin on. In other words, we need our brothers and sisters in Christ to carry us. This is what the Body of Christ is for. I have been very thankful to have people in my life I reach out to when I find myself in this spot. And I am continually amazed how God uses their faith in my life when my faith seems to be gone. No, it is not easy to admit my weaknesses at times. But I have also realized it is crazy and prideful not to call upon the Jesus in others to help me through the rough times.
I see David doing this at the end of his life, when "the Philistines were at war again with Israel....and David grew faint." (2 Samuel 21:15) Not only did David find himself at war again (how many times do I feel like this ?!) , but he is up against the sons and brothers of Goliath! These guys were out for revenge, and desperately wanted to see David dead. But he was tired, weak and weary of the many battles and could not fight this time.
However, "Abishai came to his aid... and struck the Philistine and killed him." David had friends around him that fought for him and kept him alive. You will see that in this passage , four of David's servants rose up to kill four of Goliath's relatives that came with new swords and spears to attack him.
A very powerful strategy we would be wise to implement. Having people in our lives that will rise to the occasion by praying for us, supporting us, stepping up to plate for us when we are weak. Men and women who will lay down their lives for us in order to see us win in life. Intercessors that know how to pray and discern. Those who will speak the truth in love. People like the four men in the Gospels who carried their crippled friend on a mat and lowered him down through a roof right in front of Jesus so He could heal him.
Do you have people in your life that come to your aide when you are weak? Are you humble enough to admit your need for help and assistance? I know for me, it has meant the difference between victory and defeat many times. I would like to dedicate this blog to those dear friends who have supported me recently.....you know who you are....thank you for your strength.
